Medway Labour councillors’ were out in force to support the national food bank campaign by the Trussell Trust as part of a Christmas drive to ensure stocks are replenished in advance of Christmas.
The National Collections took part at Tesco’s in Gillingham and Strood on the 3rd, 4th and 5th December and the subsequent additional work at the Warehouse on the Medway City estate the following week (Tues 8th to Thursday 10th).
Since 2010 the number of people using foodbanks across Medway has increased markedly. According to the Medway Foodbank the increase is just under 20% up in terms of client numbers on an annualized basis. There has been a significant increase in those citing Low Income or Debt as their primary reason for needing aid.
If you would like to support our work with food donations these are the items that are currently ‘low-stock’. More information on helping can be found on the Foodbank website.
